How a bet with Drogba forced Gardiola to resign

By the end of today, Josep Gardiola's era at the helms of affairs at
the Nou Camp will come to an end.

It was such an abrupt end to the shinning light that has now been well
known with the Catalan club.

To outsiders, it's a very big suprise. But to us, that knows the inner
workings of the young tactician's inner circle, it was an avoidable
mistake.

Information had it that Josep Gardiola took a "career ending" bet with
Didier Drogba on the now historic match.

Didier Drogba's Chelsea went into the second leg of the Champion
League semi final match as the underdog despite having a 1-0 advantage
from the home game during the previous week.

Most football analysts were expecting Barcelona to win the match,
Gardiola was expecting that too. The rumoured EUFA support for
Barcelona even bolster his confidence more.

This is what prompted him, Gardiola, to risk his career at Nou Camp on
a win at home against Chelsea.
The detail of the deal includes immediate resignation from Chelsea and
retirement from football of Drogba if Barcelona sails through to the
final as expected.

Gardiola was to immediately resign as the coach of Barcelona if Chelsea wins.

Chelsea a draw (2-2) from highly tactical, one sided match, thus
winning on a (3-2) aggregate to advance to the final and prompting the
emergency resignation of Josep Gardiola.

The deal was said to be non-binding, but Gardiola decided to resign as
a gentlemanly gesture.

At least this explains, in part, why Barcelona's loss at home to Real
Madrid did not provoke such reaction.

Like the beautiful bride that he is, different offers are expected to
be flying his way in the coming days. This even includes a lucrative
offer from Chelsea FC's owner Roman Abrahamovic.

We can only wish him all the best he wished himself in his career as a
sweat merchant!
